Sepstar Zhuhai x Electrolux:  High-Sensitivity, High-Precision Non-Contact Electronic Liquid Level Sensor

Working closely with Electrolux, a Fortune Global 500 company, Sepstar developed a high-precision non-contact liquid level sensor to replace legacy German-supplied components that suffered from low accuracy and high failure rates.

Through deep research, iterative design, and rigorous testing, Sepstar delivered a patented solution (Patent No. ZL 2018 2 0867414.8) that has been in stable mass production since 2021—achieving zero defects in over two years of production and eliminating customer complaints.

This milestone reflects not only our technical strength, but also our ability to earn trust from global leaders through professional excellence, rapid response, and reliable delivery.

Case Detail:

  • Product Overview

Traditional sensors on the market must be attached directly to the outer wall of a non-metal container in order to monitor liquid levels. These products often suffer from low sensitivity and limited accuracy, leading to frequent false positives or missed detections. Monitoring liquid levels across an air gap has been virtually impossible with conventional designs.

The R&D team at Jieyuan successfully developed a proprietary non-contact high-sensitivity, high-precision electronic liquid level sensor (“liquid level sensor”), overcoming critical challenges in sensitivity, accuracy, and reliability under demanding environmental conditions. This sensor ensures safe, stable, and controlled operation of the target system, protecting the equipment, end users, and surrounding environment.

  • Development Background

Jieyuan is a global supplier to Electrolux, a Fortune Global 500 home appliance manufacturer.

In 2014, Electrolux launched its flagship premium steam oven worldwide. Jieyuan was responsible for the production and assembly of the steam water tank system. The liquid level sensor, however, was originally developed and supplied by a German local vendor designated by Electrolux.

Due to environmental constraints and technological limitations, the German sensor consistently failed to meet the precision requirements of the premium steam oven. In IQC and PQC testing, the pass rate was below 50%, and customer return rates due to sensor malfunctions were also significant.

After three years of unresolved issues, in 2017 Electrolux made the strategic decision to invite Jieyuan to develop a next-generation liquid level sensor to replace the incumbent product and resolve the persistent quality challenges.

  • Development Process

With strong executive support and in close collaboration with Electrolux, Jieyuan’s engineering team began development of a next-generation liquid level sensor featuring superior sensitivity and precision.

Extensive investigation revealed that multiple factors influenced sensor performance, including: oven installation environment, main control board design, water tank structure, power supply system, assembly method, water conductivity, water movement, PCB layout, and component selection.

Through rigorous experimentation, iterative optimization, and comprehensive testing, the team finalized a robust design capable of maintaining reliable performance in demanding real-world applications.

  • Project Outcomes

Leveraging deep expertise in water tank engineering and decades of accumulated R&D experience, Jieyuan successfully delivered a liquid level sensor that fully met Electrolux’s stringent requirements. The sensor design was granted patent protection in 2018 (Patent No. ZL 2018 2 0867414.8).

To validate reliability, Electrolux implemented long-term multi-batch internal testing, on-site evaluations, and extensive market feedback analysis. By 2021, Electrolux formally approved and adopted Jieyuan’s sensor as the standard, fully replacing the previous product.

Today, liquid level sensors bearing the Sepstar brand are shipped globally with steam water tank systems, integrated into Electrolux’s premium steam ovens, and installed in households around the world.

In over two years of mass production, the sensors have maintained a zero-defect rate on Jieyuan’s manufacturing lines, with no recorded customer complaints or returns related to liquid level detection in the market.
